Sexual Grooming Behaviors

Dr. Winters specializes in studying the sexual grooming behaviors of individuals who commit sexual violence. These are pre-offense behaviors an individual may utilize to create situations in which the abuse can be more readily committed and ultimately remain undetected/disclosed. Dr. Winters has numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters on the subject. She has an upcoming book titled "Sexual Grooming: Integrating Research, Practice, Prevention, and Policy" co-authored with Dr. Elizabeth Jeglic. Drs. Winters and Jeglic have published the only content-validated model of sexual grooming, the Sexual Grooming Model (SGM), along with a self-report measure to assess for sexual grooming, Sexual Grooming Scale - Victim Version.

Paraphilic Interests / Disorders

Paraphilic interests refer to intense and persistent abnormal sexual interests, while paraphilic disorders may be diagnosed when these interests cause distress or impairment to the individual or harm to others.
